From January 4 to 8, in the German city of Grünheide, the matches of the WEVZA (Western European Volleyball Zonal Association) championship among girls' national teams under the age of 17 were held.
Eight teams fought for the "gold" of the tournament and a ticket to the 2023 European Championship and they were divided equally into two quartets: A) Italy, Germany, France, and England; C) Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium.
The first two teams of the groups reached the "final four", namely: France, Italy and Belgium, Spain. There, the Italians won two "dry" victories and became the winners of the competition. In the decisive match, they met with the Spanish, who had little chance of even getting at least one set. Therefore, the latter should be quite satisfied with the silver awards.
The third-place match between France and Belgium turned out to be more interesting than the first. Because the opponents had approximately the same chances to win. In the end, the Belgians turned out to be stronger.
