Qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games. Women
Ningbo, China. Group A
September 19. The third round
Dominican Republic — Ukraine 3-0 (25:17, 25:21, 31:29)
Blue and yellows, unfortunately, could not break their winless streak. In the third round of qualification for the 2024 Olympics, they lost to the Dominican team.
Our ladies succeded in only a few things from the first minutes of the confrontation. The opponents acted well on the block, due to which they secured a comfortable handicap of 6:2. After Jineiry Martínez "covered" Anastasiia Maievska's attack, coach Ivan Petkov took a time-out - 11:6.
The time-out benefited the players of Ukraine: the "middle" immediately rehabilitated from the previous failure with an ace. Finally, they managed to score several break points in a row. And soon, Oleksandra Milenko's well-hit "by the line" shot established parity in the set - 13:13. Despite this, the blue-yellow team could not tip the scales in their favor. After all, a lot of mistakes were made later. This explains the smeared ending - 25:17.
Markos Quick's team started the second set with a spurt — 4:0. Thanks to the efforts of Anastasiia Kraibuda, we managed to "take off" and eventually beat the pace of our opponents, but not for long. Petkov made substitutions: Yuliia Dymar and Viktoriia Danchak appeared on the court. The athletes refreshed the game quite well but did not fundamentally affect the course of the match - 25:21.
The Ukrainians entered the third set in a mood for victory. They felt that they could claim a comeback in this match — 9:11. Still, our team lacked stability. Next, the classic volleyball "swings" began - 16:15, 18:19.
The outcome of the set turned out to be as intriguing as possible - Ivan Petkov's wards regained a two-point advantage — 20:22. Despite this, it was the opponents who scored the set ball first — 24:23. The situation on the court was constantly changing. In the end, representatives of the Dominican Republic triumphed after some more or less game" occurred - 31:29.
