The teams that, according to the results of the first stage of the Ukrainian volleyball championship of the 2022-2023 season, took the third and sixth places - VC "Zhytichi-Polissya" and "The team of the Poltava region. VC Reshetylivka", respectively - began their quarter-final series of matches.
The beginning of the match turned out to be strange: both teams made a lot of mistakes on the serve, but later the Poltava players managed to take a comfortable lead (11:8) thanks to an ace and a block by captain Nik Sotnyk. The coach of "Zhytychi" Serhii Tereykovskyi tried to change something during the game by taking a number of time-outs, but the Reshetylivka team kept the initial advantage– 25:17.
The start of the next set was equal (8:8 - 16:16), but then "Zhytichi" managed to pull away a little (21:18). The key to their victory in this set was a block: there were as many as 4 of them, while the opponent had 0 according to statistics. 25:22 and already 1-1 by sets.
After a 10-minute break, Zhytomyr volleyball players immediately took the lead (5:2). "Reshetylivka" was also thrown off the rhythm of the game by an unfortunate injury of the middle blocker Dmytro Loitarenko (4:8). Changes in the composition (Anatolii Fudar and Ivan Cherniak appeared on the court), in the rotation (Danilo Fedosieiev periodically played in the opposite position) did not affect the course of the set. "Zhytychi" led until the end of the third part of the match - 25:15.
The fourth set was a continuous "more-or-less" game: at first, "Reshetylivka" dominated (3:0 - 10:4), and then, on the serve of Mykyta Luban, the team from Zhytomyr almost made a "comeback" (8:10). They did it a little later, making their supporters a little nervous (16:16). After this magical stretch, Serhii Tereykovsky's team did not lose their chance to finish the set in their favor and win the game in general – 25:21 and 3-1.
Mykola Rudnytskyi, the captain of VC "Zhytichi-Polissya" became the most effective player of the match. He brought his team 17 points and received the MVP prize from the tournament organizers.
